There's been some big changes at Getting Stoked over the last week and plenty more to come, so it's time for a bit of an update on what's going on.

The house welcomed a new member, Declan, on New Years Eve, the crew finally got off their arses and rode Greely Bowl, as well as hiking the sub-peak and dropping into the North Bowl from way higher up.

After Dec's glorious introduction to Revelstoke, involving some hell flips off the balcony, nasty cinnamon rum and a visit to the local jailhouse, he inspired the rest of the gang to start putting in some effort to check out the areas of the mountain they had previously ignored.

Following an epic dump on New Years Day the crew rode all over the mountain the day after, bashing out consecutive top to bottom runs, then lapping the Ripper chair before another top to bottom run, completing an awesomely exhausting day - top to bottom is 1500 vertical metres, so quick maths says we rode a freakin long way.

In the following couple of days we started working for our lines, hiking about to see some new places. The first stop was Greely Bowl, which involves an easy 10 min hike, a basic traverse which gets a lot sketchier with low-lying cloud about, another quick hike up a ridge, then open, open powder. Sadly we hit it up on a fairly warm day so the powder was quite heavy, but when the conditions are right the place would be amazing, and it stays good for days after a dump.

We hiked the sub-peak, which, apparently, involves 912 steps from the top lift to the summit up a face that closely resembles a completely vertical wall. Tough walk completed, we went along the ridge but instead of dropping towards South Bowl, we went into North Bowl and got some tasty fresh lines across the top, then traversed to Greely Bowl to complete the run. It ended up taking about an hour and a half from top to bottom, including the hikes etc.

Having ridden trees pretty religiously for the last couple of weeks, it was awesome to get out into the open bowls and ride some seriously steep stuff without worrying about poleaxing ourselves around trees. The other thing the last couple of days has shown is that despite riding Revelstoke for more than a month, there is still so much of the mountain we are yet to discover, a testament to how big (and radical) the hill is.

It seems like there will be a bit of a break in snowfall this week, with nothing much in the forecast until next weekend.

As for the blog, Dec took a bunch of pics so we'll steal those bad boys in the coming days and throw them up, and in a week I'll be heading to Montreal and Toronto for a two week trip, so the blog will take a turn in the touristy direction for that time.
